ประโยคในภาษาอังกฤษมีโครงสร้างหลัก ๆ ดังนี้

1. ประโยคอย่างง่าย (Simple Sentence) ประโยคที่ประกอบด้วยซับเจ็กต์ (Subject) และพรีดิเคต (Predicate) โดยซับเจ็กต์อาจประกอบด้วยคำนามหรือวลีคำนาม และพรีดิเคตประกอบด้วยคำกริยาหรือวลีคำกริยา ตัวอย่าง

   • She reads a book.
   • They are playing in the park.

2. ประโยคซับเจ็กต์สองหรือมากกว่า (Compound Sentence) ประโยคที่ประกอบด้วยสองหรือมากกว่าประโยคย่อย (clause) ที่เชื่อมกันโดยคำเชื่อม (conjunction) เช่น “and,” “but,” “or,” “so,” หรือ “because” ตัวอย่าง

6. ประโยคคำถาม (Question Sentence) ประโยคที่ใช้เพื่อถามสิ่งต่าง ๆ โดยมักมีคำถามที่เริ่มต้นด้วยคำถามอย่าง “what,” “when,” “where,” “why,” “who,” “how,” เป็นต้น ตัวอย่าง
